Key Personnel

Richard Bates – Managing Director
Richard Bates has 20 years experience in the computer industry, including seven years as Director of Omnitech Graphic Systems Pty Ltd. During that time he received extensive training in computer software and hardware with Mutoh Industries in Japan, Microvitec in England and, in the USA, with both Contex and Autodesk Inc.

After leaving Omnitech Richard joined Océ Australia as National Digital Manager. In this role he was responsible for training technical and sales staff in the operation and configuration of digital equipment. He also presented a series of seminars on scanning and document management for CAD User Magazine.

Currently, Mr Bates is Managing Director of Scan Conversion Services Pty Ltd and CEO of the specialist document management software company Practical Programs Pty Ltd.

Duncan Lord –Queensland Director
Duncan Lord is the co-founder of SCS Queensland, previously known as The Data Image Group.  Duncan’s knowledge and skill has been developed over 15 years in the specialised scanning industry. In 1993 he was the founder of a computer imaging company by the name of DragonScan. This company provided a wide range of scanning and Computer Aided Design (CAD) services for Government and private sectors.  Over four years of rapidly changing technology and constantly adapting services, Duncan acquired an in-depth knowledge of the needs of company’s from different professional fields and how to apply this knowledge to their individual requirements.

Duncan then was employed by Ausdoc Ondemand, a subsidiary of Ausdoc Information Management, to create a digital scanning department and introduce latest technology and techniques to grow the business in this field.  This included extensive training in San Jose, California (Silicon Valley USA) on software and high volume scanning methodology.

 

Mr Lord’s expertise in project management and tailored business solutions is utilised in his current role as Director of Operations for the Queensland area.

Gavin Chambers – Technical Support Manager
Joining Scan Conversion Services in 2003, Gavin Chambers had previously worked as Technical Support Manager for MGX, South Africa’s largest scanning bureau. With this 200 staff strong organization Gavin’s major responsibilities spanned:

  • The day to day operation of the MGX service bureau which included the scanning, indexing and processing of ‘cold’ client data and the ensuing delivery of microfilm that had been produced to individual format and media specifications.
  • Maximising operational effectiveness and efficiency through the implementation, maintenance and support of all relevant hardware equipment and software solutions.

In such roles, Gavin’s expertise was pivotal in major projects such as the:

  • South African Government’s Medscheme Health Fund Project – involving 1 million claims per month across 5 branches and 3 provinces.
  • Uganda National Elections – scanning the printed ballot sheet of each candidate.
  • Nashua Mobile Phone Contract – involving document management for the client’s mobile phone network contracts throughout South Africa.
